Hi Ken,
Many thanks for pointing this out mate, to be honest I completely missed this letter, it seems obvious that I should read our fabulous hobby's only publication, letter for letter from now on!
My letter to Cage and Aviary was meant only as a short but sweet tribute and thank you to Dorset Birds for the excellent service they have provided up until the time they had to call it a day.:-(
But thanks to Mike Ratten from Herefordshire he has trashed this small gesture, in the past I have avoided confrontations in the pages of Cage and Aviary Birds, but on this subject you can fully expect a retaliation.:x
This Tit has got his views well and truly confused on the state of the hobby before and after the interference of the AR on the state of our hobby.
I agree that the AR are responsible in part for waking up a hobby that was complacent with the faults whithin it.
But Mr Ratten also contradicts himself throughout his letter, in hindsight the certain Bird Sales he speaks of had flaws too, but hey this idealist sees fit to attack others when his own facts are far from perfect.
Ken,
Thanks again for pointing out something I had missed mate, I just hope Cage and Aviary will print my replies?
Paul.

I was appalled by this guy's rant - what a prat! I think Paul's original tribute to Dorset Birds was wonderful and much appreciated by all.
Mr. Ratten, on the other hand, came across as a rambling idiot!

hi paul
i always read the letters thoroughly as that were i get my letter fodder from and your name jumped out at me when i read that very badly worded and stupid letter i was also going to send one in objection to him slagging one of our members off let alone a perfectly worded tribute to a couple of people that iddint know personally but i have never heard a bad word against its people like him putting comments in c&a that makes people sick and i am sure yours will not be the only letter sent in mate good luck

Hi Ken,
Sadly I think mine will be the only reply to Mike Rattens rant (possibly apart from R.Turner), as you say he has attacked a couple who are innocent of the accusations he has made.
Dorset Birds projected a possitive image on how the trade of birds should be done correctly and in a possitive way forward for our hobby.
Mr Rattens rant has infuriated me on a personal level and because his views are sadly way outdated.
Paul.

I have taken M.Rattan's rant as a slur on Dorset Birds and I will have something to say on this matter!
I do wonder if they will print it all...including my 'web' address!

Hi Chris and Laura,
Chris,
Depending on what gets published this week, and possibly next week in C&A, you may still have an opportunity to send in your views on this topic?:D
Laura,
Sorry mate, you are right in what you say, I forgot Ken is being rewarded already.

Hi everyone,
Obviously I'm grateful that Cage and Aviary printed my reply today to Mr Rattens letter from last week's issue. But I am very disappointed that they didn't do the same with the letters that both Diane and Laura sent in to them.:-(
I had hoped that what could have been done today was that in Cage and Aviary Birds printing the replies from the three of us, it may have shamed Mr Ratten into keeping his gob shut in the future. Laura, Diane, myself and I'm sure many others, saw this idiots rambling letter as an unwarranted slur on the past reputaion of Dorset Birds.:x
Cage and Aviary did trim my letter a little though (I dont think they could devote a whole page for one letter only). The fact is I was damned annoyed by his comments directed towards Mr Turner too, in doing so I believe he had attacked the majority of people within the hobby.
He stated, "many members of cage bird societies choose to attend sales, and show very little regard for the purpose of the society as an organisation that is there to educate and give interest to people who want to learn about birds".
Is he saying that because some of us don't attend monthly meetings that may, or may not have a booked speaker to educate us, that we are less serious about our hobby?:x
They also chose not to print my comments concerning the huge costs involved in traders paying for their stands at the National, I mentioned that without dealers paying out huge sums of money for their stands at the National that the ticket price may be at least treble what it used to be?
I wonder why this wasn't included?
Paul.

hi paul
they always chop them down for some reason, but some of them they print the whole letter and you just get tired of reading them as they are far to long so they just pick the best bits out!yhey have done it to all of mine and as you know they are not very long..but ay least you got a chance to defend yourself, its a pity laura and diane didn`t get theres printed as it would have lent more wheight to the subject....but you could have mentioned the website mate.......shame on you
