Good one Laura,

It's looking good so far for a great season with Jacarinis this year, with your Birds at least.

Well done mate, Paul.

Hello Matthew,

There are a handful of Jacarinis in the U.K., they are not as commonly available as Finches such as Green Singers etc.

The adult pair Laura has are an unrelated pair that I bred in 2003, Laura bred two chicks from this pair in 2004 a cock and a hen.

I recently bought three cocks to pair up with my spare 2004 bred hen and Lauras two 2004 bred hens, in the meantime I lost my adult cock:mad: and one of Lauras 04 hens started to moult out as a cock.:?
So now Laura only needed an unrelated cock to pair with her 04 hen, so I swapped her 04 cock for one of the three I bought, I now needed two and not one cock, which leaves Lauras 04 cock which will be going to another Jacarini keeper in Devon who has a single hen waiting for a mate.

Did you keep up with all that? Because I confused myself and I was the one posting this.:|

Paul.:D

lol, i think i just about got what u was saying m8,
how much do they cost a pair when u find them?
i know of 2 men who breed them and that John roylance and Norman waddington, i don't know whether you know them but it would be usefull for them to be in contact with you seeing as these birds are rare in this ciuntry.

Hi Matthew,

I'm glad you and I can speak to each other in secret code, Jacarinis used to be priced at around £30-£35 a pair, the three cocks I have just bought were priced at £25 each but I managed to get them for £20 each, I have seen pairs for sale recently at £60 pair.
Personaly I think £40-£45 a pair is enough for these Birds, as lovely as they are £60 a pair is way too much for Jacarini Finches.

I don't know of John Roylance, can you put him in contact with me, or vice versa?
I do know of Norman Waddington but I have yet to contact him although I will do so soon.

Paul.

Crickey!! I didn't realise they sold for that much!!

Paul, I am hoping to catch the cock's mating display on video, do you think it would be worth posting it on this site?...............Provided that my beloved (step) I hate that word, son , is still talking to me after the 'bunnie' conversation :?

G'day Laura,

I said they were advertised for £60 a pair I didn't say they sold for that price. I think this Dealer will have his one pair of Jacarinis for a very long time before he realises it may be a good idea to lower the price.:-|

On the subject of posting video footage of the cock Jacarini courtship display, I recon it's a great idea and I'm sure your Stepson Carl will forgive you for your Bunnie comments.:)

Thanks Chris,

I hope you are right mate I know you have put a lot of effort into FIGHT BACK, I would hate for yours & Karls work to have been wasted, I also share Matthews fears in an Anti attack.
