I have two pairs of BWM's. Each have their own cage. Both had clutches, only one fertile. But these first timers didn't feed the baby so it died. What to do? I don't like fostering because then the bird doesn't know what it is...my opinion. Will the birds eventually "get it" and feed the little ones? Never had this happen before with newbies. Would like to know anything about BWM's (Bronze Wing Mannakins). Anything at all....food care and the like, maybe I'm missing something. But I do admit I spoil them a lot.

Hi Ken and Roxie,

Ken,

Great link mate.

Roxie,

Presently it is even more unfortunate that if we own birds that are unwilling to rear their own young that we may be forced to have to foster them in order to raise the numbers of particular species.

Regarding the pair that attempted breeding but let you down, was this their first attempt with you?
If so then hopefully they will get it right on their next round, if not then fostering may be the route to take in order to gain extra valuable stock to breed from in the future?

On a personal note I'm not a fan of fostered birds, but if a particular species depends on this method of rearing then so be it.

All the best to you, Paul.

Paul, these are virgin birds, first clutch, first time the whole kit and kabootle. The other pair, same thing but eggs were not fertile. Again these two pair are first timers so maybe as you said this time around they will get it right.

Hi there, was wondering if anyone has White Societies ( dark-eyed)? I was also wondering if any of yours raise their own young? Here in the states we have a problem with that and the eggs are being fostered out. Mine are not raising their own so this time, to get this new line started I fostered the eggs out to my Fawns. Any know why this happens???

hi roxie
i dont know about anyone else but thats a new one on me,i have had whites in the past but they had no trouble rearing there own young.as you know i have white javas both dark eyed and red eyed and they are better parents than the normals i know there are a few species that pick on white forms of thier own but i have not experienced it in bengalese personally

look at this link ...this man has had no problems with breeding either and goes as far in saying they breed a lot better now that 10 years ago

Hi Roxie,

Again I've not heard of this being a problem, but I do hope that you do eventually end up with a parent raising strain of White Bengalese.

All the best, Paul.;-)

Kenny, my whites are societies (bengelese) not javas...I hope to that they will turn out to be good parents....so far still doing the fostering thing, but I am giving them other society eggs to sit hatch and raise but so far no luck with those either. I know they are fertile eggs so,they sit the eggs. the only thing they don't do is bathe and sit on the eggs. So I don't know.

Paul, Thanks. I do too, but it's not happening just as yet. But as I said before to Kenny, I do give them other society eggs to try to raise but no luck with them either. However I did neglect to say, their very first clutch they laid, one baby hatched but they never fed it so it passed, same thing with the second clutch. But I will keep trying.
