Hi all,

Yesterday it was anounced that verified footage of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker meant that a Bird Species thought to be Extinct for nearly 60 years wasn't in fact true.
Video footage from Western Arcansas was verified to be genuine that the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is in fact NOT Extinct!

I personaly took this news well, I was so happy I cried my my bloody eyes out!

Paul.

What good news!

How did it manage to stay hidden for so long?

Hi Laura,

The Ivory Billed Woodpecker has been sighted on many occasions over many years but has never been backed up with hard evidence until now (even though with grainy video footage  ).

The Habitat of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is in particular Forests known as Bottomland Hardwood Forests they are flood plains of slow moving water in which the Trees grow, these Forests have become fragmented over the years due to intensive logging.
The other reason for this Bird being regarded as Extinct for all of these years is that like many Bird Species it is very elusive & the Birds Natural Habitat is rather difficult to explore & navigate even without looking for a Bird Species that may or may not exist in very small numbers.
