i thought i was in luck last month when one of my hen's started laying eggs and sitting, unfortunately she only say for a few days before deciding that she wasn't well enough hidden

since last month she's had about 4 different nests  and i'm non the better off

however i've just noticed yet another nes site that is well hidden, so finger's crossed this time! i know she can do it because she reared a total of 12 chicks last year! if this doesn't work out tis time round, then i'm going to go crazy and but about 5 ornamental grasses to plant!

Hi Chris,

I made a Quail feeder from a Margarine or Ice-Cream tub to prevent the perching Birds from eating & crapping in the Quail food pots, simply cut a slot out of the side of the tub leaving a lip to prevent the seed from spilling.
One year I feared I had lost my hen CPQ because I couldn't find her in my 9 ft X 6 ft X 6 ft planted flight only to discover she had construced a full dome nest in the feeder & incubated & hatched a full clutch of eight Eggs.

What I'm getting at is, it isn't a case of spending money to breed from your Birds, sometimes Birds surprise us in their choice of nesting places, please try my suggestion of the tubs.

Paul.

hi paul,

thanks for the idea mate, i'll give that one a try :D i may use plywood however as i have several sheets lying about in the shed, and my margerine tubs are being used for white worm cultures.

having said that, i'm sure there's an ice cream tub lying about somewhere :D

G'day mate,

Plywood will do the trick too although, I've found over the years if you provide something for CPQ to use for a specific reason they will either ignore it completely or use it for another reason.

BTW if I PM my address to you would it be possible for you to PLEASE send me some White Worm in exchange for some Lesser Waxworms?

Paul. :D

Hi Paul,

are these the super waxworms i've heard about

yeah i can send you some in the post, i will send a fair amount of worms in a small amount of Compost to reduce weight. they may take a while to multiply but when they start there's no stoppin em

do you already know how to culture white worm, or do i need to provide instructions

Chris
