View Full Version : Where's my shadow gone?

This year sparrows have raised two broods in a nest box on the wall in our garden.

Naturally, the sparrows soon got wise to where I keep all my bird foods and the cock bird was alway at my shed door as soon as I started to walk down the garden.

He followed me from aviary to aviary and was grateful for the odd mealworm or 5 that I used to throw for him.

The dogs got used to him being around and rarely bothered him.

Where-ever I went in the garden the cock sparrow was always close by.

Yesterday Roger told me the young ones' had flown their nest and had gone into the garden next door.

This morning just after 6am, my Starlings were creating a huge fuss. I jumped up and looked out of the window to see what was upsetting them and saw the horrible black cat that hangs around this area. He was walking across my neighbours lawn with a sparrow in his mouth.

I left some mealworms in the normal place for him this morning and when I came home at lunchtime they were still there.

Was it 'my' sparrow the cat had? I'm not sure, but I have missed my shadow today

Cats are great...you get 50 points for hitting one with your car, whereas immigrants only yield 25 points.

Okay okay, sorry bout that.

I certainly hope it wasnt your Shadow. I'd have a nice present for that cat...in the form of a punctured can of tuna that's has sat for a month in the hot sun.

Hi all,

Relating to Rogers sighting of a Bourke's Parakeet feeding a Bengalese Finch, the most weird photo I have ever seen is that of a Virginian Cardinal feeding a Goldfish/Koi Carp.

So regarding Roger's sighting I have no doubt at all that this is the real thing.

Paul.:D
