Hi Kenny,

greensingers are often called yellow fronted canaries, not sure about yellow bellied though? you might have the giant greensinger subspecies in which case paul will know when he sees them

hi chris
i thinkj you are right about the giant sub species as they are much bigger than any greensingers i have had before.........a long time ago i might add, they were put out in the aviary early today after keeping them indoors to settle but they are already looking a nest over.........the yellow bellied name came from the guy who i begged them off i daren`t tell him they were the same species otherwise i would have lost the sale as i said i went for some cfw zebs and he wanted to sell me un weaned chicks but he wanted rid of these as he didnt like them  he has a nice pair of cuthtroats i have my eye on if i can persuade him to part with them if i tell him they are ribbon finches and not cuthroats i may get them cheap:wink:

hi all
my son went out early today, and his parting shot was," that aviary is boring and there are only javas and bengies in there "so he came home with 2 birds that he had got from a local nurseries he said they looked lonely and bored and they were both on there own .......a definate cock parsons anda red factor canary he wanted a pair of parsons but they only had the one which at this moment in time is chasing the bengalese all over the shop and the canary has joined a few others that i aquired during the week courtesy of my wife i will put some pics up later as o think the cock parsons is in really good nick

Hi Ken,

From the photos you have posted I can't positively identify them, but I'm going to say that they are more like the Yellow Bellied Canary as they were sold to you, rather than the larger sub species of Green Singing Finch that I have.

As you say though regardless of their true identity, they are a great bargain,:D having said that Green Singers etc, can prove to be an almighty bitch species in a mixed collection.

I've now come to the conclusion that this Family of Serins are better suited to an aviary of their own, or housed in a mixed collection of Eagles or Hornbills.

Good luck mate, Paul.;-)

hi paul
i know they can be a bit of a pest in a mixed aviary but i shall keep an eye on them for now if they turn out to be to nasty they will be extracted.but at the moment they have been wizzing back and forth and feeding each other ,but not attacking any other birds

hi matt
i reported before to paul that i thought she was eggbound as she kept looking down as if something was annoying her,but she seemed to get over that and for afew weeks she was back to nomal then i noticed on saturday that she was puffed up a bit so i caught her up and brought her inside i felt her keel and she had plenty of meat on her...but i started feeding her up with a few different things and i thought the warmth would bring her round but she didnt look very well last night and there was nothing else i could do for her and i went in this morning at first light and she was dead...i dnt know how old she was though..which is always a problem!
