Hi Ken,

I agree that it is a very nice Hecks, but I would say it is a cock bird.

I'm just waiting to be proven wrong now.

i only put it on the parsons thread as there isnt one for hecks....and i am afraid paul is right it is a definate cock bird as it never stops singing!as i said my son bought it because it looked lonely and it was the only one there he is hoping to go back as they have said they are getting some more stock in from a private breeder....who cares i didnt pay for it! but it is constantly harrassing the bengies singing to them they dont like it but there is nothing i can do

Hi Ken,

You may end up with another Elvis mate, after all that is the result Laura ended up with when one of her Hecks paired up with a Bengalese (or the other way around), as gorgeous as Elvis is, I hope you manage to pair the Hecks you have with a hen of his own kind.

Great news Ken,

I'm sure you will enjoy breeding the Hecks, they are entertaining and prolific birds, but not quite as intrusive as Zebra Finches, best of all they are worthwhile breeding because you wont have to give the chicks away (again unlike Zebras), £25-£35pr is a good return for your breeding efforts.:D

All the best mate, Paul.;-)

hi paul
i will be a few quid up to start with as i may have to pay for the next one but my son will not take any money for the hecks or the red factor canary wich i have to find a mate for also.he just said they looked lonely so he bought them with them being just one of each i have some pics of the red factor which is a nice bird but i think it is starting to moult as it is losing a lot of feather

Kenny do you give your red factor canary beet juice or beets to keep it's color rich? They do that sometimes here in the USA.

Kenny, I'm sure the USA has things available for the birds now to get them to keep their color. I learned about this when I was a teen....I'm an old teen now LOL.

Wow, we posted at the same time there Rogerb. Now that I know what to look for, I'll find a picture on the net of your birds. I mistakingly read your posting...I read Parsons but was thinking Peking Robin...my bad (mistake), But heading off to find pictures of your birds, bet they are wonderful...do they have a great song???

Rogerb, saw your birds on the net, as soon as I saw the one I knew it to be a Shafttail...I guess they are one in the same as I read on, neat birds you have there. I bet it takes a real expert to raise some of these new birds I've seen today. Lorikeets, parsons, hecks, goldies, canaries, ect....always learning something new.
