I spotted a lot of cobwebs in my garden the other day, I collected them up and put them in the aviary that houses my Zosterops......they had no end of fun with them!
It is very strong nesting material. :-P

Great tip Laura,
Zosterops in the wild are known to use cobwebs for nest building, Long Tailed Tits and certain Sporophila Seedeaters do the same.
As you say Spiders Silk is a very strong material,;-) it is useful to species such as the Sporophila's that build quite a thin nest, but in the case of the Long Tailed Tit by using Spiderwebs and various soft fibres making a nest with thick walls this helps to produce a nest with elasticity that comes in handy as about a dozen chicks grow on before leaving the nest.:D

Hi
We rescued our cockatiel 13 months ago as he was suffering from severe crulty from his previos owners. His back claws and part of his toes were chopped off by their young daughter, both wings were cut to the quill, and he lived in a cardboard box for a year.
When we rescued him, he was so frightened. We took him to the vets the following day and reported these people.
Now he has learnt to fly again, he speaks to us, he eats much better and likes to sit on our lap or shoulder and likes a kiss.:-o
We now feel that he needs a friend of his own kind, were not sure if we should get a female or male, he is friendly, loves our company and loves roaming around the house, could you suggest which would be the best for him please.

Hi Bam-Bam,
The story of your rescued Cockatiel is very very sad, I'm pleased that caring people such as yourselves Emma and Danielle came to this birds rescue.
Despite this bird suffering the horrific mutilation described by yourselves and the fact that it managed to live through being kept in a cardboard box for a year, I'm surprised the bird lived for more than a couple of days after coming into your care?
I'm pleased that you reported the previous owners of this bird for their cruel behaviour towards this bird, I hope that we will read of the report regarding their previous keepers sentence very soon.
Paul.
