hi matt /paul
well there is nothing like a sunny day and a threat from the wife:shock: to get you motivated i got one half of my aviary started today and i had to leave it half way through as the wood needs to dry out a bit more ( to much tanalising stuff on it ) so i started to put up some polystyrene on my walls so i acn cover it later.i got some lino for the floor and put in some drawers for storage, hopefully i can get started on the other half tommorrow but the saw keeps kicking back with the wood being wet and i dont want to saw my arm off.my garden sems to have just sprouted all of a sudden since i put my shed up

Hi Ken your aviary is very good.it is worth it in the end all your hard work. my husband spent about 5 months doing mine but he did it right. If it takes that much longer, it does not matter. This is what mine looked like when it was nearly finished

hi trudy
that looks really good,as you say if you want something to look good you have to take your time over it......mine was in the planning stage since october of last year and a lot of it was built from reclaimed wood......solid ....but reclaimed! but it has turned out exactly how i wanted it so i am happy as i am sure you are with yours

hi all
well i have some good news and some bad news, the good is that i ordered a ton of sea aggregate for this morning the bloke came at 7-30 and dropped half a ton of the stuff on my driveway and i said that doesnt look much and he said your right i have come to the wrong address so he ahad to go back for the rest but he brought me another full ton so i got 1 1/2 tons for the same price....so i got all my branches in that i had been saving and by dinnertime it was looking really good but i had also ordered my corrugated plastic from b&q but they had forgot to deliver it today and the next day they will be here is thursday i mean the store is only 3 miles away.....so i am going to have to wait my wife suggested that i put a light tarpaulin sheet that i have on the top of the aviary as she says it is a shame to have them stuck inside ,when the days are really nice like they were today...stupid b&q the stupid illigitamate people

hello Ken
as you will know i have long said that B&Q are useless, Neondatel man did not die out, he did in fact go to work at B&Q.
if its only 3 miles away its a shame you could not of collected in person save plenty of time.
at least you got a good deal with the aggregate.

hi matt
there loss i have told em to syick it and am going to a little firm that does polycarbonate sheets just as cheap...i prefer that anyway so they have had it,i put all the netting i had left on the aviary floor and put sand and cement all the way round the edges to hold it down and there was a good 6 ins of aggregate on the floor that`ll do me

hi dave
yep i will certainly have a rest now,i know the javas look a bit to much but my wife asked me to turf them all out to give them some exersize as they have been in breeders for a long while and they were all looking a bit raggy they hadnt had a proper bath or a good long fly to build themselves up.so i just threw the lot outside .but the pop holes i made work pretty good as they fly into the inside of there and i just catch them on the other side .i have already tried it and it works pretty well so i may leave them out for a while then rake in the ones i want

Hi Kenny,
looks great! you could create quite a canopy effect if you grow some climbers such as russian vine, passionflowers, honeysuckle, clematis and hops around those branches. also my other favourite, the banana:razz: B&A are selling the japanese banana (musa basjoo) this year instead of the edible banana they were selling in previous years. unlike the edible banana (musa acuminata), the japanese banana (basjoo) is frost hardy at root level down to -10'C, so it will grow back the following year from the base. it's also quite possible to get this one to fruit if you protect the main growing stem over winter.
at B&Q the small 1 year old plants are £10, the large 3 year olds are £50 ish (expensive). if you want a small plant B&A is the place to go, however if your after a big one try http://www.jungleseeds.co.uk , the smaller plants are more expensive but the big 5 foot plants are far far cheaper and they are delivered to the door which is a bonus.
if you wait until next year though i could probably help you out with some bananas as my ornamental bananas are growing like buggery, pitty the rest of the seeds i planted arent
bananaman:)

actually it might be better to get musa sikkimensis from jungleseeds as the plants are bigger and hardier, roughly the same price

hi chris
thanks for the info mate,i am seriously considering differnt plants to put in there.but haven`t yet decided to do it this year or next but i am intending to put some kind of living stuff in there its just that those branches were what i saved back from cutting the hedge down to put the fence up and it worked out that they were just the right size and they have quite afew varying branches on them so i am quite pleased.i was hoping that it would turn out ok but it has surprised even me the way it has turned out i am really happy with it.........but and i dont know whether you will understand this or not but now its all done i feel deflated!like as if ..is that all the work was for type of thing...or am i just stupid
