Hello Laura,
Thanks for posting the details for Shepton, I should go to this because it is so much nearer than Stafford, but then again there may be some big changes before this event goes ahead?:D
Also Laura, if you contact the guy who sent the link he may be able to advise you on breeding the Cape Sparrows? As well as being the organisor of the Shepton bird sale he also has the first breeding of the Cape Sparrow since 1902.

Hi All
Which is the best show to go to Festival of Birds or Stafford. I cant afford to go to both but would like to go to one of them. I am mainly interested in buying a few finches and I know the parrot society run the october stafford show but will there be finches for sale there as well. Also are there birds for sale at the sheppton mallet show or is it just seed and supplies etc.
Thanks for any help it will be appreciated.
Alan

What type of finches are you after Alan?

Hi Alan,
Unfortunately it will be a gamble regarding availabity of most birds at both shows,:( but I will echo Lauras question, that it depends on what Finches you are looking for?
Obviously Shepton wont be as long a journey to make as Stafford, but there may be a better choice of birds at Stafford.
I've just sent an e-mail to the organisor of Shepton to find out how many tables have been booked, and stands have been booked by dealers with birds for sale.
I will let you know more after recieving the reply.

Hi Laura and Paul
I am mainly after some green singing finches, cock bronze canary and possibly one or two hen lavender finches i know these are quite hard to get but i did pick up a cock at a dealers three weeks ago. Unfortunatly i have now two cock birds.
But if you can let me know how many tables have been booked that would be great.
Is anyone going to either from here
Thanks Alan

Hi Alan,
I will be attending both Shepton and Stafford, Green Singing Finches may be a possibility at either sale, the cock Bronze Canary could be a dead cert at either sale, but I'm sorry to say that your hopes of finding hen Lavender Finches are almost certainly zero.:?
I will let you know the results of the reply regarding dealers booked for Shepton as soon as I know whats going on.

i won't be going as its way too far away,
i wish you luck Alan in finding lavender hens, they are not cheap at all these days, believe you me i have heard that there mat be some for sale but they will be £100 a pair
not a chance that i'd ever pay that

Hi Alan and everyone else,
Unfortunately due to the interference and intimidation from the AR, details of traders and breeders attending the Shepton bird sale cannot be made public knowledge before the event for security reasons.:(
In recent years information regarding traders hoping to attend the sale have been found by the AR, this has resulted in threats made to individual traders intending on visiting the show!:-x
As you can imagine the details of not only traders, but also breeders intent on attending the Shepton bird sale, are now kept from the general public until the last moment.
Alan, I'm sorry to say that either event will be a gamble regarding tracking down the birds you are looking for mate.:-|
It is down to you now as to which event is the best to attend.
Sorry mate, Paul.

hi All, I was reading my local paper covering the gloucestershire area and there was an article on shepton mallet show with the dates and entry price for adults and children so that was good to see.

Hi All
Does anyone know if you have to be member of a club to get entry into the show. I had heard that last year you had to be member of a bird club.
Thanks Alan
PAUL HEARN
09-17-2006, 10:15 PM
Hi Alan,
It is true that you need to be a member of a bona fide bird club in order to gain entry to the Shepton Mallet bird sale, if you aren't a member of a recognised bird club then you will be required to join the local bird club in order to gain entry.

Hi Alan,
I'm sure the Bird Clubs you are a member of will be OK for you to gain entry to the sales day at Shepton.;)
I will send you a PM to explain further.

Hi Tina,
I'm sorry for not keeping up with the posts here recently, the date for the Stafford Bird Sale is the 8th of October.
At present it seems that anyone hoping to visit the sale should be a member of the Parrot Society, or any other recognised Bird Club/Society.
Hopefully I will have the time and information to let you know more regarding the entry details before the sale.

hi paul/matt
well thats going to stop a lot of people, going i think. unless its just a way of getting money out of people e.g. you join the parrot society and you can get in.... the price is ...etc they probably will not care if they dont keep up the subs as a one off of a few people would boost the coffers of any bird club....and i personally think it stinks..as a lot of people dont want to join any clubs they just want to keep birds and go to sales to improve thier stock ......hopefully!

Hi all,
I'm sorry but the being a member of a recognised Bird Club/Society is a requirement of the Festival of Birds at Shepton Mallet, and not the Parrot Society Stafford Bird Sale.
I'm sorry for getting the two sales confused.
